Expedition is carried out in different levels: .
a.) Desk / Telephone Expediting
Desk expediting is a form of expediting, performed without physical presence of the expeditor at vendor location. Desk expediting is mainly considered as a follow up way of communicating specific issues or periodic updates of milestones pertaining to the order in ‘on track’ projects.
b.) Field Expediting
Field Expediting is performed to assess the status of design, document approvals, material availability, production status and adherence to schedule/delivery commitments. The expeditor physically visits the Supplier/Vendor and will discuss all issues, status and progress verifying that the information collated and necessary actions required are correct. Any slippage or anomalies observed will be discussed and recovery plans agreed to ensure delivery schedules. All activities and actions will be reported at the completion of each visit and if required by the Customer, then a visit close out call will also be made prior to leaving the works.
Field Expediting can be Periodic or Full time.
